Mix Colors art studio offers art courses in a variety of media to the community. These weekly meeting art courses will build skills and art appreciation in your selected area. Preschool Picassos

If you want to expose your little Picasso to different forms of arts & crafts, then this time at the studio will give them the opportunity to tear, cut, glue, paint, sculpt, construct, and draw their way to a happy day.  The class will focus on having fun while working on creativity and fine motor skills that will help create art.

Preschool Picassos is a drop-off class for kids 3-5 years olds.  It is advised that parents stay around the studio area, especially the first week or so of class.

Each session will offer instructional assistance, all supplies & materials, and time to create.

Art Studio for Grades K-4

Art Studio is for kids that want to want to expand their skills in a variety of art.  Classes will incorporate an assortment of techniques, application, materials, as well as art history to create finished projects.  The kids will learn and have fun at the same time.  This class focuses on art basics, the process of creating, use of a variety of tools, materials and applications, and the enjoyment of completing a art project.

Each session will offer short instruction, supplies & materials, and time to create.

Exploring Famous Artists

Exploring Famous Artists is for kids that want to want to learn more about the Masters in Art, how they works and their artwork.  Classes will incorporate a wide range of styles, techniques, media, and application. We’ll discuss color, expression, composition, storytelling, process, and so much more while creating fun & artsy projects.

Each session will offer short instruction, supplies & materials, and time to create.

Drawing for Kids 7+

Drawing for Kids will address a variety of drawing techniques that includes perspective, countering, shading, shapes, sizing by sketching from props, imagination or still-life arrangements. The artists will develop at their own pace getting individual instruction to advance themselves in the completion of their artwork.

Each new artist will receive a sketchbook on the first day of class for them to use at home and bring to class. Returning students will use the same book. New books can be purchased through the studio when pages are filled.

Students will be given a drawing assignment each week to complete at home to help develop their skills.

Drawing for the Teens & Adults

This session of Drawing for Teens & Adults will address a variety of drawing techniques for still-life drawing, including staged still-life setups, object drawing, drawing based on lighting source, proportions, perspective, texture, and position. The artists will develop at their own pace getting individual instruction to advance themselves in the completion of their artwork.

Each new artist will receive a sketchbook on the first day of class for them to use at home and bring to class. Returning students will use the same book. New books can be purchased through the studio when pages are filled.

Cartooning

Cartooning will explore methods, techniques, and processes in creating cartoons, comic strips, and animation. Kids will learn about cartooning and animation as an art form. Perspective, scene, gesturing and expression will provide the foundation for developing cartooning skills.

Each new artist will receive a sketchbook on the first day of class for them to use at home and bring to class. Returning students will use the same book. New books can be purchased through the studio when pages are filled.

Drawing and Painting for Kids

Drawing and Painting for Kids will provide an opportunity for the students to learn how to develop their painting skills by starting with a drawing, then moving to application of a variety of medium, including acrylic, oil pastels, ink, and watercolors.  An assortment of substrates will be used in the completion of projects, including canvas, paper, board and more.

Class is recommended for kids 6+.

Coffee & Canvas

Coffee & Canvas will provide an opportunity for the students to learn basic application and techniques using acrylic medium. Application, color blending & mixing, shading, and brush technique will be discussed.  Students will work at their own pace and will be giving group and individual instruction.

Coffee & Canvas Continues

This class is a continuation of Coffee & Canvas. It is an opportunity to continue to work on skills and techniques learned in a prior session.  Students will continue to explore the mixing and blending of their paints to achieve more dynamic paintings, practice brush techniques, and a variety of applications.

Projects will be determined individually and each student will work with the instructor in the completion of their work. Students will work at their own pace and will be giving individual instruction.

We will provide brushes and acrylics each class meeting. The class provides education quality acrylics, brushes and three 11″x14″ canvases. Different size canvases may be purchased in addition at the studio or you may bring your own.

No previous camera and shooting knowledge required.  Individual assistance will be provided.

Bring your Point & Shoot or DSLR camera and the manual to each class.

Recommended for ages 8+.

Mixed Media Altered Book Workshop

Mixed media is the art of mixing various medium together.  For this workshop we will use old books as the foundation of the artwork, then implement a variety of mixed media techniques to achieve the desired outcome.

You will learn to transfer inkjet photos onto a surface, create distressed images, incorporate natural materials, use stencils, painting techniques, and templates.

This 2-session workshop will allow you to explore mixed media techniques while creating a final project.

All materials and supplies are included.

General Information

Mix Colors art studio offers art courses in a variety of media & techniques to the community. If you are looking for a place to foster your child’s love of art, or if you want to explore art yourself, Mix Colors art studio is the place for you. The classes will be taught by professional artists.
Our weekly classes will run in six-week sessions from September-June. The schedule of class sessions and meeting times are listed by class below. Registration is required at the start of the session to guarantee a spot in the class, however if there is space available we do accept drop-ins.
Each class meeting will offer group and individual instruction.

Policies

Punctuality
Please be on time for your class. Do not “drop off” your child early or leave them at the studio past their class time. We are not equipped to watch children that are not in a class.
Missed class /Make up class Policy
If a student misses a class, they can attend another class within the same session if there is a comparable class and if there is space available, or they may come to Walk-in & Create Hours and work with their instructor during their scheduled work hours.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO PRORATING OR REFUND for missed classes. “Missed” classes cannot be used as a “class credit” for the next session or other studio events.
To schedule a make-up class please send us an email and we will work to find a class that works with your schedule or schedule a private lesson. We will send a confirmation email within 24 hours.
All registrations agree to the Missed Class/Makeup Policy whether they register online or in the studio.
No parents allowed in the classroom.
We believe children should be able to enjoy and focus on their art class. For this purpose, we ask parents to wait outside the studio room until class is over to avoid disruptions. Please call us or discuss it with us if you have any concerns about this policy.
Payment
Registration is required and payment is due at the start of the first class of each session.
Sibling Discount
We offer $10 off each session for additional family members, first student at full price. You can register for classes through the Calendar. Please use code: FAMDIS for the Family Discount.
Cancellations
One week advanced notice, before the start of the session begins, is required to receive a full refund. Cancellations made after the one week advanced notice period will be refunded less a $30 cancellation fee. Cancellations made TWO days before the session begins ARE NOT eligible for a refund. There will be no refunds or credits once the class begins.
Please note that we require at least two (2) participants in each class for it to run. You will be notified TWO days before the scheduled meeting time if it is canceled.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, the decision to open or close the studio will be made by 8am the morning of class, if bad weather start during the day we will update closing as far in advance as we can to the start of class.
We will communicate by mass email to all families and via our Facebook and Twitter page(s).
If we close due to inclement weather, students can make up their classes following our make-up procedure. Mix Colors art studio does not refund or credit for classes canceled due to weather.
We also want to stress that we want everyone to use their best judgment at all times and make a personal decision for you and your family based on the roads in your area and your feeling about driving to art classes. Even though we may be open for classes, please don’t feel like you need to travel to the studio if you are questioning the trip at all. We understand and you can make-up the class. Ultimately, we want everyone to be safe.
